Sheremetyevo International Airport Organizes Full-Scale Emergency Training Exercise

On August 31, 2010 Sheremtyevo International Airport organized full-scale emergency training exercise at the airport. The exercise is organized to prepare the airport to take immediate actions in the emergency cases.

As legend has it IL-62 bound on the route Charlie—Moscow landed at Sheremetyevo International Airport with a smoke in the baggage-cargo compartment. The plane carries 46 people and 6 crew members. The fire started in the fuselage tail section and fuel spilled after the landing. The aircraft stopped at the runway. The exercise alert was announced at the airport.

Emergency rescue service and emergency teams arrived at the airport in three minutes after the alert announcement.

The airport organized an emergency operations center to coordinate the work of all services and associated organizations.

The actions were exercised during the training to rescue passengers, crew and deliver care to the victims, provide fire fighting onboard and fuel spill response, aircraft towing.

The main exercise involved such organizations as the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and the Rectification of the Consequences of Natural Disasters and Federal Security Service of Russia, Line Internal Affairs Department, Road Patrol Service, emergency medical service, border and customs services of the airport, State ATM Corporation, Moscow Transport Prosecutor’s Office etc.

The training exercises were aired online at the emergency operations center.

Sheremetyevo international Airport worked as usual during the training exercise. All flights were performed according to the schedule.
