Sheremetyevo and Royal Air Maroc open the first regular direct flight from Russia to Morocco

Today, on 15 March 2011, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the national air carrier of the Kingdom of Morocco, has opened regular flights to the Sheremetyevo International Airport on the route Casablanca (Morocco) — Moscow. Inauguration ceremony of this flight was held in the arrival zone of Terminal E.

The ceremony was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Russia, CEOs of the RAM Airways, and Sheremetyevo Airport, as well as representatives of tourist industry.

Casablanca — Moscow flights shall be arranged 3 times per week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, from Mohammed V airport (Casablanca), and from Terminal E of Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow at 17.05 MSK on the board of Boeing 737. In the future the air carrier plans to arrange daily Casablanca — Moscow flights.

The new Casablanca — Moscow flight shall be the first direct regular route to connect Casablanca and Moscow. Earlier flights to Casablanca were routed via Malta and other transit points.

Thus, the route Casablanca — Moscow became another unique regular destination from Sheremetyevo, together with Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, Rome, Helsinki, Teheran, Delhi, Seoul and Havana.

Currently, regular flights to the countries of Africa, Middle and Near East from Sheremetyevo airport are offered by Ariana Afgan and Iran Аir. Moreover, Aeroflot offers flights to Beirut, Damask, Dubai, Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Tel Aviv, Eilat; Transaero: to Dubai and Tel Aviv.

In 2010 the share of passenger traffic to Africa, Middle and Near East was 15% of the aggregate number of Sheremetyevo passengers.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the Russian-biggest airport in terms of international flights. JSC SIA is 100% state-owned. Route network of Sheremetyevo covers over 200 destinations. In 2010 Sheremetyevo handled 19 mln. 329 thousand passengers, which is by 31% more than in 2009.
